HOW TO MANAGE POST-HARVEST LOSS

One the biggest problem in Africa generally is post-harvest loss, after putting so many effort in selecting your seedlings, preparation of the land, planting and naturing and fertilizing the croos. 

Studys have shown that not because there are no enough Farmers neither there are no enough lands. Especially Africa that we have almost every where cover with land and almost every one in the rural area practicing Agriculture Bussiness in one form or the other so what happen that almost 75 perfect sleeps hungry every day

Storage facilites and other contribute to ineffective output 

1. Planing: In the case of large scale farming where so many produce is involve . There should be atleast a structure for proper timing of the weather conditions, when the product will be most needed in the market. A consultant who have knowledge about post harvest knowledge should be employ inother to incurcucate ideals on how to avoid westage 


2. Availability of market 
Before setting up a farm there should a market ready to accommodate the produce. Farm produce like pineapple watermelon cucumber e.t c won't take days before loosing their original taste. In other to keep fresh and to give the original nutreint to the consumer . Before setting up a farmer already have a market structure and strategy cause it not only the farmer loose the consumer also loose 




3.  Preservation 
farmer should explore various methods to keep the produce intact for the sake of lost. For example tomatoes can be use fresh,can and all be paste to the extent that the wrought can be deploy back to the farmer . 


4. Post harvest materials should be well manage : materials for bagging especially should be well intact so as to avoid westage many people neglect this especially local produce foods, the vehicles carry the produces should be well intact so have to avoid breakdown inother to curb spoilage along the road .

5. Storage facilites : there are situation where market is far from the farm storage facilites can help to reduces the rate of harvest loss . It helps to balance availability of the product .
